February 2024 Program Update

Due to high demand, the installations of irrigation retrofits have been paused pending additional funding. Customers interested in the program should still sign up and have the certified irrigation professionals conduct the landscape survey. See below how to schedule your survey.

In addition to the valuable information the survey's provide, customers will automatically be placed on the waitlist for any qualifying retrofit installations. LVMWD staff expect additional funding to be available early this summer with additional program improvements and benefits.

Why should customers take advantage of the survey and irrigation retrofit programs?

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that inefficient irrigation systems are responsible for up to 25,000 gallons of wasted water annually. The Irrigation Retrofit Program is meant to help customers claim that water back with modern and efficient irrigation system upgrades to keep the water where it is supposed to be, on your landscape.

LVMWD is offering our customers a unique opportunity to have certified irrigation professionals examine and retrofit their existing irrigation systems to maximize their efficiency.

What the program entails:

Professional installations may include:
- high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles
- drip irrigation
- capping of unnecessary sprinkler heads
- Irrigation controller re-programming of retrofitted zones

Start Here - Schedule a Landscape Survey

The first step is to schedule and complete a FREE water efficiency through the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD). This survey is completed in-person with the customer and provides an excellent opportunity to learn the "ins and outs" of your irrigation system from a certified professional and identify where water savings can be achieved indoors and outdoors.

Important Info:

Once you’ve submitted your application, a WaterWise representative will contact you in 3-5 business days to schedule your survey.
During the survey, a WaterWise professional will determine if the customer qualifies for the Irrigation Retrofit Program.
Once the survey report is completed and the customer qualifies for the Program, Water- Wise will contact the customer to schedule the Irrigation Retrofit installation.

If the customer does not qualify, the customer will be notified, and reasons why will be noted in the survey report.

Step 2 - Schedule Installation

Per survey findings - installations may include high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles, drip irrigation, and capping of unnecessary sprinkler heads. On the day of installation, the installer will walk the customer through the items to be retrofitted and begin work. Once the installation is complete, the installer will reprogram the irrigation controller for the zones that have been retrofitted with a new irrigation schedule. All installs will be done by manufactures’ specifications.

What products will be used?

In-line drip irrigation delivers the water where it's supposed to be and represents huge water savings from traditional overhead spray sprinklers.

The MP Rotator upgrades your standard sprinkler heads with ones that deliver a constant, targeted stream of water at a lower rate which helps coverage and reduces waste.

If there are deficiencies identified (e.g., breakages that require fixing before installation) on the installation date, the customer will be given 30 days to make repairs or amend the problem and the retrofit will be rescheduled.

A 30- day warranty on services will be provided

Funding is limited and available on a first come first served basis. Limit 1 retrofit per qualified customer.
